The Northern Territory has world-class resource endowment, with some of Australia's largest deposits of uranium, zinc-lead, bauxite, gold, phosphate and manganese, and numerous emerging projects for commodities such as copper, iron ore, rare earths, tungsten, zircon sands and potash, as well as conventional and unconventional oil and gas.

The CORE (Creating Opportunities for Resource Exploration) program, a new $3.95 million initiative by the Territory Government to be undertaken by Northern Territory Geological Survey (NTGS), is designed to maximise opportunities for the exploration and discovery of new mineral and petroleum resources. The focus will be acquiring new precompetitive geoscience information to stimulate exploration, improved online delivery of information and data, as well as industry grants for high-risk exploration and programs to attract international investment into projects in the Territory.
